A visit to Dr. Mike's Friend

A few days after her second birthday it was time for Charlotte's two year old checkup.  Our past few experiences with our pediatrician have been less than stress-free due to Charlotte's panicked crying that starts as soon as we're taken back to our room.  So since she has developed a huge love for Dr. Mike over the past few months we decided to talk up our talk as a visit to our doctor, Dr. Mike's friend (they really are friends in real life, but we are now using this for any doctor -- including those that don't know Dr. Mike!).  This approach worked spectacularly and Charlotte got through her appointment without crying until her shot, and you can't really blame her for crying during that!

She hung out with Daddy in the waiting room while we waited to get called back...

She was a happy camper in the waiting room and did surprisingly fine once we went back.  They let her weigh her and measure her which proved that she's had a growth spurt since she was there for her 18 month checkup!  Charlotte weighed 25.3 lbs (35%).  She was 34.5" tall (75%!!!).  And she's still really smart with a head circumference of 19" (60%).

Everything at the doctor looked good and she was right on track with everything.  When our doctor (who we really love) put her down on the ground to watch her walk he commented on how FAST she's going to be! With her pigeon toes she is already a really quick runner and it's sometimes a struggle to keep up with her without running ourselves.  He did tell us that she'll probably fall a lot more than usual due to her toes so it was both good and bad to hear that.  Good so that we don't think we're doing something wrong and bad because we've had so many falls recently it's kind of scary to think that we might be dealing with that for a long time.

Our only negative came near the end when he checked her eyes (with a really cool device that only made her look at the light) and said that she might have vision differences in her eyes.  That's not necessarily something that we wouldn't expect since Jason is practically blind without his contacts and I have vision differences in my eyes (I only wear one contact) but we were surprised to hear it this early.  As a precaution he's sending us to a pediatric eye doctor in Birmingham at the end of the month so that he can check her out and see if anything needs to be done.  He said at this age there's a possibility that if they put her in some type of glasses that her brain could fix itself since it's still developing.  We have that appointment on June 30th and you wouldn't waste prayers on us since it's a little unsettling to think about having to try and keep glasses on a two year old.

Charlotte did have to get a shot which was entirely unpleasant but her tears were quickly dried once we were back in the car with Mickey turned on and we reminded her that we were on our way to T-town!  Tuscaloosa is probably one of Charlotte's favorite places in the world so she was very excited to go!  More on that trip coming up!
