We had originally planned for our first trip to Tuscaloosa to occur in October for Homecoming. James would be almost 6 weeks old and I felt like we'd finally be up for a trip by then. But my parents came home from Tuscaloosa after the North Texas game and put on a full court press to try and get us down for the Arkansas game and Jason put up no fight with their efforts. :) Since I was feeling pretty good I didn't mind as long as we could get a swing for the condo and Mom and Dad could take Charlotte down. They quickly conceded on my requests and our weekend was set.
So Mom and Dad picked Charlotte up after breakfast on Friday and took her down to Tuscaloosa. This fall has been huge for Charlotte's awareness of football and her memory and she has been looking forward to going to Tuscaloosa for over a month. She was so excited to go and couldn't wait for Memma and Papa to pick her up. She made the trip down without a stop (and it was her first potty trained trip too!) and enjoyed an afternoon with Memma and Papa and a visit from Cousin Lauren.
Jason, James, and I came down after Jason got off of work on Friday. The day was not without troubles as James basically refused to sleep anywhere but on my chest so I was pressed to get us packed and out the door on time. We only ran about 10 minutes late but, of course, I realized half way to Jason's office that I'd forgotten two things that Mom had asked me to bring and I realized after we left Jason's office that I left the hanging back with our game clothes at home. After two pregnancies I'm not sure I'm ever going to regain my memory!
We made it down with no more problems though and had a fun evening watching Charlotte run all over the place in excitement. James had, thankfully, spelt the entire way down and slept great on Friday night so things were ready to go for Saturday. Charlotte was so excited when she got up on Saturday and it was finally gameday! During the morning she would yell "It's GAMEDAY!" sporadically and also sometimes stopped what she was doing and said, "I'm excited!" She couldn't wait to get to the game.
We took a family picture before heading over for pre-game at the Mansion. Charlotte was so excited in the car on the way over and couldn't believe it when she got to see Denny Chimes again and hear it playing. She got a little overwhelmed at all the people but it really only fueled her antsy-ness to get into the stadium. She was afraid of Big Al and refused to get a picture with him but other than that she was happy as could be.
Since James was still so young (18 days!) he and I went back to the condo for the game. Jason drove us back to the condo while Charlotte went to the stadium with Mom and Dad. When Jason got to the game he started taking lots of pictures per my instructions. From what I heard Charlotte had a BLAST at the game and did really well. They stayed through the end and she managed to stay happy until bedtime even without her nap!
Oh, I hadn't seen that first family picture...LOVE IT!! You are definitely a super family for getting yourselves to Tuscaloosa for the big game! Just think, maybe in January you'll be taking another little one to the National Championship game!! :)
