My office was one of the spaces that I was most looking forward to in the new house. It was going to be my refuge. My space to decorate how I wanted and keep organized how I wanted. My home for my computer and books and odds and ends that didn't have a home in the old house. My own little corner.
Before I show you the whole room, let's go back to the inspiration board.
And now, come and see the rest of the room!
This is standing in the pocket door looking to the right. Like I said, it's tiny but it's all mine!
You can see the fabric covered bulletin board as my "backsplash". You should also note, that I've got another piece of plexiglass on the desk surface just like upstairs in the kids study. Again, I got it from Lowe's and got it cut there to my measurements. It makes it easy to clean off the surface and it is like a second bulletin board because I can stick things that I need to remember under the plexi so that I can see them but they're not in the way!
And looking to the left you've got bookcases that I sketched out the design for and our cabinet shop created, along with some closed door storage underneath. Here's a front picture of the bookcases but it was hard to get so forgive the distortion.
I love these bookshelves because they aren't just straight shelves, but yet they're still symmetrical which works for this type A girl. I'm able to showcase tall and stacked items as well as smaller items. And it's a neat place to keep special mementos like my Willow Tree figurines and the watercolor of our wedding invitation.
And it wouldn't be complete without a close up of the balloon curtains that are on a roller and come all the way down. And the ode to the written word lamp hanging from the ceiling! I love the lamp but it did come with a few snafu's. It was actually a light that was supposed to plug in to an outlet and then have the cord snaked up to hang the light with so during installation we had to get a similar looking piece to be able to hang it straight from the ceiling. And, since the cabinets go so high, when I stand on a stool to access the top shelves I have to be careful so that I don't bump my head more than necessary!
I love the apothecary drawers above my desk! They are the perfect size to stick sticky notes and stamps and envelopes in and it's easy to reach up while still sitting and grab something out of one. Their small size makes it hard for something to get lost in them and is a built in organization method!
