By our fourth day on vacation it was starting to catch up with us. I had been fighting a bad sinus infection all week and was exhausted and everyone else was pretty tired too. So we went to get breakfast again at Sugga Pie's and then Jason and Charlotte headed back to the park and James and I headed back to the condo for some laid back play time.
Then, after James napped and ate, we headed to Grayton Beach and The Red Bar for lunch. Charlotte has discovered that she loves shrimp so we knew that it would be a good move. It was almost empty (we got there about 11:15) and we sat outside under the umbrellas. James was great during lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to go out to a traditional beach restaurant.
After nap time it was back to the beach for our last time. The goal for today was to build a sand castle!
But Charlotte enjoyed some more roly-polying before the building began!
The biggest problem with building a sandcastle was that Charlotte wouldn't get anywhere near the water. So, since she has a sweet Daddy, Jason brought bucketful after bucketful of water up to where we were to wet the sand and make it buildable.
James and I hung out in the tent and watched the building
After the beautiful sandcastle was completed it was time to pack everything up and head back to the condo. Charlotte was so sweet waving bye to the beach as we walked up the boardwalk. She had a great time and is already talking about going back! Not sure when that will be but hopefully she'll remember the beach by the next time we get down there!
We went to dinner that night at Wild Olives again and enjoyed our last evening with a visit to The Sugar Shak. Jason and I packed the car that night after everyone went to bed and as soon as they got up the next morning we hit the road. The kids really did great on the car ride both times but it is a long way in the car. We got home around 3pm and were so happy to be back at home!
A few funny things for me to remember that I didn't fit into the narrative about the beach.
- One day we were sitting in the den of the condo and Charlotte walked in and told us that she had gone to the bathroom. She had successfully wiggled herself onto the potty without a stool, gone and done everything, pulled her pants back up, and washed her hands without even telling us! Before we left for the beach she was using a stool to get on and off the potty and we were doing almost everything! We were amazed and very happy since she'll have to do all of that in the fall in preschool and we weren't sure how to wean her into independence!
- One afternoon Jason mentioned that he wanted to get a little more sun the next day and so to only put the sunscreen on lightly. After telling him in no uncertain terms that that WAS NOT going to happen due to pre-cancerous moles being prevalent in both of our families he said that he guess that it was ok since it was just 15 SPF. At that point I told him that we were all putting on SPF 70 every day and he hadn't even realized it! It was quite funny to see the shock on his face!
- I took Charlotte to the Rosemary Beach Trading Company one day to pick out a souvenir and she, of course, picked out a puppy dog. She is named Rosemary and sleeps with Charlotte now.
- The first night that we got there we pulled in to a groom and his groomsmen getting pictures on the road. There was a wedding on the green that night that we could hear from our balcony. We think that they had fun despite the fact that it started raining halfway through the reception. That didn't damper the music so we hope the bride didn't mind either!
Overall we had a wonderful trip and I'm so glad that we were able to take Charlotte to the beach around this age. James was pretty oblivious to it the entire time but we'll go back soon when he can play too. Maybe next time they'll both get in the water and it will be a tad warmer!
