Christmas Morning

We woke up on Christmas morning planning to spend the morning at home and then meeting Jason's family at his Mom's parents house for lunch.  Jason had been predicting 5 inches of snow at our house since the beginning of the week but, honestly, I didn't believe him one bit.  I knew that we would get cheated again and end up with barely a dusting whereas someplace south of us like Birmingham would get tons of snow!  So as soon as I woke up on Christmas morning I got out of bed and went to the windows fully expecting to be disappointed.  However, this is what I saw when I threw open the shutters!

SNOW! And lots of it and it was still falling in huge flakes!  At that point we knew that our plans were going to be altered since we didn't want to get stuck somewhere away from home and you  have to take a pretty steep drive to get to our house that wouldn't be worth risking in the snow and ice.  So we quickly packed our bags and then went to check and see if Santa had come!  We were happy to see that he had!  So we went and woke Charlotte up!

We started a new tradition this year of reading the Christmas story in bed (or as close to C's crib as we could) that we hope to continue for a long time.  This year we read this children's book but eventually we'll move up to the Bible.  I look forward to many Christmas morning's snuggled in beds reading this precious story with our family before we head down to see what Santa brought.

After we read I took Charlotte and we went to see what Santa brought!  Since she's still not big enough to go down the steps herself we had to make a choice whether we wanted Jason to film or take pictures.  I chose film and so we don't have tons of pictures from the morning but we've got a lot of precious video that we'll always cherish!

We first headed to the den and saw Santa's spread there!

Charlotte was excited to see lots of Elmo on the couch along with a new baby doll!  (In the week leading up to Christmas if you asked her what Santa was going to bring her she said "baby" so I was glad that Santa came through!)  We opened up her stocking and she loved pulling everything out of it but wasn't too impressed that Santa left her a number of new bows.  But the girl loves her bows the rest of the time so Momma was relieved to have more colors!

Then we told Charlotte that we saw that Santa brought her something in the study so she went to check it out and what did she find but a Gymbox!  Charlotte enjoyed playing around with her new gym and loved going down the slide!  She initially only went down backwards but by the time we got home the next day she was going down forwards and hasn't stopped since!  Santa sure did find a hit!

Here's our video of our time on Christmas morning! It's kind of long so only watch it if you're really bored.  :)

We decided we needed to get on ahead to Mom and Dad's so that we wouldn't get snowed in at our house but we had a wonderful morning just the three of us.  I look forward to many more wonderful Christmas morning memories in the years to come!

  1. For as long as I can remember, we have always piled into my parents' bed on Christmas morning to read the Christmas Story from Luke 2. So glad that y'all do that!

Good choice on going with the video. Priceless memories.
