I loved getting to start new traditions for birthday's in our house with Charlotte. When my brother and I were growing up my Mom always woke us up on our birthday by playing Walt Disney's Happy Birthday to You. I loved that and so that was definitely a tradition I planned on continuing. So Jason and I both went up with my iPhone ready and as soon as we turned on the light and knew Charlotte was awake we started it and sang along. It took her a second to figure out that we weren't crazy (or any crazier than normal!) and to wake up but once we did she started dancing and bouncing along to the music!
After getting changing into her first birthday shirt and jeans we went and met Memma and Papa G for a birthday breakfast. During that time we also taught Charlotte to hold up one finger when someone asks how old she is! We were amazed at how quickly she picked it up! Charlotte loved her eggs, grits, and bacon for breakfast and I made sure to snap a picture at 9:30 AM exactly so we could see exactly what she was doing when she was born last year! She was hamming it up for the camera and telling us how old she is!
We went home and Charlotte took a nap while Jason and I finished last minute prep for her party. We had Mom and Dad come over to help with last minute items while Charlotte was asleep and once she woke up we put her in her party outfit and grabbed a few pictures (or tried to!) before the party started.
We then had a fantastic birthday party which will require it's own post or lots of posts!
After her party she took a nap and we rested after a fun but tiring morning. After her nap and a dinner of leftovers from the party we took Charlotte on an excursion in her new wagon! She looooves her wagon and enjoyed riding around the house between her nap and dinner that we took a nice, long walk in it. She loved it and just chattered the whole time we were out.
We got home and washed the dried cake and icing out of Charlotte's hair with a bath and then put her to sleep. She had a hard time falling asleep either from all of the excitement or all of the sugar. Overall, it was a wonderful day that I so enjoyed. Happy 1st Birthday Charlotte!
