As a student Homecoming was pretty much my least favorite week of the year. There were the loooong hours that you had to spend at the house pomping outside for starters. This is made even worse when it rains and you're sitting three rows up on rickety scaffolding held up by metal poles under a suffocating tarp trying not to let the pomp stain your clothes! It's a lot of sisterly bonding of course, which can be fun at times, but when everyone is stressed out on Thursday night trying to finish the lawn decoration on time it can get pretty hectic! My professors also usually chose Homecoming week to be the time when the hardest, most important tests would be given. Nothing like trying to study while you roll sheets of tissue papers into small balls or you are cutting your fingers on chicken wire! HAHA!
I digress, Homecoming is fun in most ways. The week is full of tons of fun activities: games on the quad where your team is competing against everyone else's, bonding with sisters, spending the week celebrating the history of a great University, going to watch the choreography competition, walking around sorority row Friday morning to see the lawn decorations, drinking hot chocolate and chatting while you pomp, meeting new people in your house or in your paired fraternity while you pomp, etc. However, the greatest thing about Homecoming as an alum is that you come in to town with all of the "stuff" already done. The lawn decoration is finished and the house is cleaned up. The store fronts are painted in cute Alabama themes without you having to get messy. And almost everyone in town is there to celebrate The University of Alabama!
This year was especially fun because almost the entire side of my mom's family was there! My mom has four sisters and they haven't all been in Tuscaloosa together for a football game in an extremely long time. Alpha Chi's girls won the choreography competition and we got to watch their rockin' dance on the quad Saturday morning! We got to enjoy the parade and walk around the Quad and experience the sites. And then, to top it all off, we had our first shut out since 2005 and walked away from the weekend ranked #1!
Here are a few pictures from the weekend:
Cousin picture (but we're missing Charlie and Lauren!)
Tell me about your favorite (or worst) Homecoming memory!
